The path through the grove is relatively short, yet it offers a magical experience with light filtering through the bamboo stalks. Tenryu-ji Temple

Arashiyama's allure is significantly enhanced by the Sagano Scenic Railway, a nostalgic train line that offers a unique perspective on the region's natural beauty. The railway, also known as the Sagano Romantic Train or Sagano Torokko, follows a seven-kilometer route along the Hozugawa River, originally part of the JR Sanin Line, now preserved to offer scenic views. The 25-minute journey connects Arashiyama to Kameoka, presenting passengers with views of forested ravines and rural landscapes.

Departing from Torokko Saga Station, adjacent to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station, the train also stops at Torokko Arashiyama Station, one kilometer west. The vintage trains, complete with wooden benches, are particularly popular during the autumn foliage season, from mid-November to early December, when the ravine transforms into vibrant colors. Note that the trains do not operate in winter, from late December through February.

Tickets for the Sagano Scenic Railway can be purchased at Torokko Saga Station or online, with advance booking recommended, especially during peak seasons. Each train comprises four enclosed cars with openable windows and one fully open car, offering varied viewing experiences. Upon arrival at Torokko Kameoka Station, travelers can return to Arashiyama by train from nearby Umahori Station, or combine their trip with a Hozugawa River Cruise, accessible by bus from the station. The Sagano Scenic Railway provides an intimate encounter with Arashiyama's scenery, linking it with the broader Kyoto region through convenient transport options.

Togetsukyo Bridge, the "Moon-Crossing Bridge," is Arashiyama's signature landmark, offering picturesque views of Arashiyama Mountain and the Katsura River. Spanning 155 meters, the bridge provides access to Arashiyama's attractions, souvenir shops, and tea stores.

Located a short walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station, the bridge is easily accessible. Arashiyama Mountain, south of the bridge, offers memorable seasonal views, from cherry blossoms in spring to fiery red maple leaves in autumn and snow-covered landscapes in winter. The bridge is also part of a local children's initiation, where they must cross without looking back to avoid bad luck.
