Location ⬇️ Save this one for later or send it to a mate planning a North Island roadie 🏕️ When I first heard about a beach you can only access through a tunnel carved by hand, I knew I had to see it for myself. 📍 Waikawau Tunnel Beach, Waikato, NZ 📅 When to go: Best visited at low tide so you can explore the full stretch of beach safely. Summer and early autumn (Dec–April) are ideal for better weather and sunset hangs. 🛻 How to get there: Located on the remote Waikato coast between Marokopa and Awakino. The road in is gravel for the last stretch, so take it slow — but yes, 2WDs can make it! Parking is at the entrance to the tunnel and it’s just a short walk from there. 🌿 What to expect: A dark, narrow tunnel (torch not necessary but helpful), wild waves, black sand, and towering cliffs.
