And it’s less than an hour north of San Francisco. The place? Muir Woods National Monument. Here’s how to visit + turn it into an excellent day trip from SF (save for later 😉): . 🚗 Make a reservation: you need to reserve a parking spot or shuttle from Sausalito in advance (save a screenshot on your phone since reception is spotty). Otherwise, you can technically hike in without a rez from elsewhere on Mount Tam or starting in Mill Valley via Dipsea Trail. It’s a big day, but I’ve done it. . 🥾Go on a week day. If you have the flexibility (and I hope you do if you’re here on vacation!), it’s much more chill and has less crowds. . 🌲 Hikes: Hike the main trail or pop off onto the Fern Creek Loop (fewer people off the main trail). . 🍻 Go to Pelican Inn near Muir Woods Beach for a beer on the lawn. Tbh the food is just OK but it’s pretty, so I usually just come here for a drink. You can either drive here or make it the midway point on a hike from the park (~4 hours/6 miles RT) . 🏖️ Continue on to Stinson Beach if the weather is nice before looping back to the city. . 🍕 For food, my favorite nearby recs are Lumber Yard in Mill Valley or @pizzahacker or @hookfishco in Tam Junction, but both are on your way out of the area. . #muirwoods #californianature #northerncalifornia #beautifulplaces #getoutside
