Guide to each of these spots ⬇️ Before we dive in, make sure to share this with someone so you can plan that bucket list trip! ⛰️ Roy’s Peak: This is a pretty simple 3-4 hour return hike. Make sure to go at sunrise or sunset as it can get pretty busy, and consider going on a weekday. It’s CLOSED from Oct 1 to Nov 10 each year for lambing. 🏞️ Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park: Don’t miss the Hooker Valley Track, often considered New Zealand’s best day walk, which takes about 1 hour each way with amazing views the entire time. Also, trek down to Tasman Lake for a sunrise - it only takes 20 mins! 🌅 Pouākai Tarns: This iconic view of Taranaki reflected in the alpine lake is best done at sunrise or sunset. Check the weather carefully as you need clear skies and wind speeds of <10m/s to get the reflection. 3-4 hours return hike. 🌋 Tongariro National Park: Home to what is regularly voted one of the best hikes in the world, the Tongariro Crossing is well worth the 6-8 hour journey. There are heaps of shorter walks as well, including Mead’s Wall, Taranaki Falls, and Tawhai Falls. 🌀 Blue Springs: Home to some of the clearest water in New Zealand and the world, Blue Springs is straight out of Avatar. The walkway is now finally open (mostly) and you can access the springs via an easy 15 min walk from the Leslie Road entrance.
