Have you ever waken up with a drive to travel but you didn’t know where to go? Here’s the perfect way to spend an amazing day exploring Korea off the bitten path. Take the Mogunghwa train to Yeougwol. This is where we are exploring today. Luckily there’s a tourist taxi service that you can book in advance. You can pick several pre-planned tours or make your own trip. Alie and I choose the historic tour and despite the rain, we had amazing time. Our fist stop was Cheongnyeongpo - the exile place of King Danjong of Joseon Dynasty. Really magnetic place that still bares the marks of the short rain and tragic end of this king. Next stop is the king burial spot - Jangneung Royal Tomb. It’s not a typical tomb as when the king was laid to rest here, his successor was not much in favor of giving it a royal status. Still, beautiful UNESCO heritage site. Walk down to the beautiful pond where in April fun folk activities are held. What would be a trip with no food, so natural next stop was to get some local boribap - so healthy and delicious. Coffee is a must and where is better to get coffee than at the lotus garden of the royal tomb guardian temple - Beopheungsa Temple. We strolled around the temple grounds and jumped into our taxi to get to one of the highlights of our trip - Yeongwol Y Park. Youngwol Y Park is a vast artistic cultural complex with 11 different areas to explore. So much to do and see, so set aside at least 2 hours. Our last stop on the taxi tour was the breathtaking Seondol Cliff. The views from the observation deck are absolutely amazing. Just before boarding to our slow train to Seoul, we spent some time in the tourist lounge. Grab a book or magazine, and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of this space created specially for visitors.
