Your Waitomo adventure itinerary is here ⬇️ 📌 Save this for your next North Island road trip! The Waitomo area is one of my favourite parts of the North Island. It has caves full of glowworms, an epic waterfall, and an ancient natural bridge carved by nature. 🚗 Waitomo is a 2.5-hour drive from Auckland or 2 hours from Hamilton. Bring your own car or campervan to explore freely—public transport is limited. Start in Waitomo village and work westward toward the coast. 🌿 Book yourself into an experience at the Waitomo Caves. I’d highly recommend doing black water rafting! 🏞️ Also head Mangapohue Natural Bridge (20 mins away from the caves)—a short walk through a limestone gorge to a 17m-high arch. 💦 Check out Marokopa Falls, one of the most photogenic waterfalls in the country. Bonus spots: Stop by the Ruakuri Scenic Walk for an easy loop through native bush and caves, and check out the Piripiri Cave, a free, self-guided cave just off the main road.
