LOCATION ⬇️ Share this with someone who loves the night sky! ✨ One of my favourite things to do in New Zealand is stargazing. The Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve contains some of the darkest skies in the world, and gazing up at the heavens from this spot on the shores of Lake Tasman makes you feel small in the best possible way. 🌌 The best time to visit is during a new moon, when the skies are darkest. Winter months (May–August) have the longest nights and the presence of the Milky Way core, but even in summer you’ll get breathtaking views thanks to the reserve’s world-class dark sky status. 🚗 From Mt Cook Village it’s only a short drive to the Lake Tasman carpark, followed by a 20-minute walk to the glacier lake viewpoint. Bring a headlamp (with a red light setting to protect your night vision) and pack warm layers as it gets cold quickly at night. ☁️ The Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve is one of the largest in the world. Weather can change fast here, so check the forecast before you go out. On clear nights you can see the Southern Cross, Magellanic Clouds, and the Milky Way in incredible detail. If you’re into photography, bring a wide-angle lens and tripod—you’ll thank yourself later! 👉 Follow @getlostwithliam for more New Zealand travel tips, hidden gems, and stargazing spots! #travelnz #newzealandtravel #bucketlisttravel #adventuretravel
