Dancheong is Korean traditional decorative coloring on wooden buildings. It literally means \"cinnabar and blue-green\" in Korean. This tradition of decorating buildings is not unique to Korea. It’s wildly practiced in China and Japan. What makes Korean Dancheong unique thous is how delicate and sophisticated it is. The unique coloring explosion on Korean wooden structures is possible due to the use of natural materials as as powdered stone dust, rusty lead, copper ore, vermilion pigment to mention a few. Five basic colors used result into more than 20 different colors. Most of the forms on the drawings actually are inspired by day-life objects like vases, animals, flowers. It’s really fascinated to learn how interesting the history of this art it is. .\n.Next time you pass a building painted carefully in these sophisticated patterns, take time to reflect, use your imagination and try to guess what they represent.
