3️⃣ and 5️⃣ my top two 📝1. NO PLAN is the best plan. I was never one to plan too much, but the more I planned the more inconvenienced I was. When you’re travelling solo you meet so many people and you’re often invited on so many little side quests, when you overplan you have no room to adjust. Your hostel is already booked, your flight leaves tomorrow but everyone you’ve made friends with have planned something else. Plan a little, but stay flexible. 🚌 2. Overnight buses are NOT always worth it. I thought an overnight bus was the best travel hack - save money on accomodation and no need to fork out money for a flight? A win win… until I realised that 1. I’m exhausted 2. I was dropped off in the city centre at 7am and 3. I can’t check into my accomodation until 3pm 😵‍💫 ‼️ 3. You don’t need to be nice to everyone. As a chronic people pleaser I thought I could safely navigate travelling solo as a woman by being nice to everyone. Unfortunately, being nice to men is more often than not understood as an invitation to flirt with me, follow me, or grab me. I realised very quickly that replying to and even just smiling back to men on the street was unsafe for me. I’ve been followed, catcalled and even grabbed. So now I just keep my head down instead. It’s a shame but it’s the reality of it. 🛌 4. Read reviews before you book your accomodation. Don’t book the cheapest option. Don’t book the most central option. Book the accommodation with good reviews. I’m not saying book every 10 on hostelworld but anything under a 6.5/7 is best to stay away from. 🗺️ 5. You don’t need to travel between cities/countries so quickly. Fast travel is exhausting. Some days I even felt guilty for resting because I only had two days (or even one) in a city. Slower travel is the way to do it, and it can actually be even more affordable than spending 1-2 nights in certain places. Worldpackers and Trusted Housesitters are great ways to stay somewhere longer without spending your entire travel fund on accommodation (because it’s free accommodation!) 💬 Is there any you agree/disagree with? . . . . #moveabroad #traveller #aussieabroad #solotravel #femalesolotravel
