I have been living in London for 7 years and did all these mistakes so you don’t have to: 🚫 1. Strawberries at Borough Market •They’re heavily overpriced compared to any supermarket, and stalls target tourists. You’ll end up paying £6–7 for a punnet you could get for £2 elsewhere. It’s just normal strawberries with melted chocolate. You can do it yourself with good chocolate and it’s still cheaper. 🚫 2. View from the London Eye •It’s £30+ for a 30-minute slow ride, always crowded, and the glass often has smudges ruining your photos. Plus, the view is nice but not worth the price. Instead head up to Sky Garden (free with booking), The Garden at 120, or even Primrose Hill for incredible panoramic views without the long queue or hefty ticket. 🚫 3. View from The Shard •The viewing deck costs around £32, and once you’re up, you realise many free rooftop bars nearby offer a very similar perspective. If you book a drink at Oblix, or Aqua Shard inside the building — you get the same view for the price of a cocktail instead of just the ticket. 🚫 4. Shopping at Oxford Street •It’s crowded, chaotic, and filled with the same chain shops you’ll find in any big city (H&M, Zara, Primark, etc.). Not the best use of your limited time in London. You can explore Covent Garden, Carnaby Street, or Spitalfields Market where you’ll find indie brands, street performers, and a real London vibe. 🚫 5. River Cruise •They’re expensive, you can do it much cheaper by taking a Thames Clipper (public river bus) with an Oyster or contactless card and you still get the gorgeous views from the water.
