When you clap your hands under the painting, it produces a sound like “Biiin!”—this phenomenon is called “resonance.” Standing under the dragon’s painting is believed to bring you power, so I felt fortunate to have this rare opportunity. Sennyu-ji is a historic temple that has served as the imperial family’s ancestral temple since the reign of Emperor Shijo, hosting many imperial funerals over the centuries. The monks and staff at the temple provided explanations for each highlight, making it an enjoyable and educational experience, almost like a guided tour.
