Taking a sleeper cabin has been on my bucket list for a LONG time. As an American in the middle of the country , we rarely have the opportunity to take trains let along sleeper trains. When we were traveling from Bangkok Thailand to Chiang Mai we picked a first class sleeper cabin so I could knock it off my bucket list. The tickets cost 2400 Baht or about $68 USD per person for the private compartment. So here are some tips and tricks if you are interested in the train ride… 1. Book direct as that will guarantee you the cabin you want 2. Tickets open up 180 days before your trip. If you buy before that on 12Go you will not be confirmed until 180 days out. On the site 12Go does let you know that is is possible you won’t get your fist choice of cabin 3. CABIN LOCATION IS IMPORTANT (close to the end of the car, close to bathroom) 4. There is AC but it is not super powerful 5. The food on the train is not great so bring your own or wait till you get to Chiang Mai!
