These two shrines are located very close to each other! ◼︎Access 🚃By train • About a 9-minute walk from Keihan Uji Line, Uji Station • About a 15-minute walk from JR Nara Line, Uji Station 📝About Located upstream from Uji Bridge, Uji Shrine is a sacred place known for its connections to academic success and safe childbirth. It is also famous for the legend of the “Mikaeri Usagi” (The Looking-Back Rabbit). The story behind the reverence for rabbits originates from the tale of Ujinowakiiratsuko-no-Mikoto, the enshrined deity, who lost his way while traveling from Kawachi Province to this area. A rabbit appeared, guiding him by looking back repeatedly and leading the way. This “Looking-Back Rabbit,” said to show the correct path, has since been venerated as a divine messenger. Within the shrine grounds, there are three small rabbit statues. It is believed that finding all three will grant blessings, but it’s surprisingly challenging! 🐰 Rabbit Blessings 🐰 Visitors can write their wishes on a rabbit-shaped ema (prayer plaque) and offer prayers at the main hall through the “Mikaeri Usagi.” Then, while holding the ema, walk clockwise around the main hall three times. During this walk, if you manage to find the three rabbit statues, you may receive blessings beyond what you wished for on the ema. After paying your respects with a sincere heart, be sure to take on the Rabbit Blessings challenge!
