Let’s talk about the “stages” of moving abroad that I experienced 🌎 ↗️ When I made the decision to quit my job and move to South Korea, I of course felt anxious but I mostly was excited and happy. So many new things to see, so much to prepare, to learn, to try! This phase is often called the Honeymoon phase cause you’re so delighted that you finally reached your goal 🙌🏼😍 ↘️ This excitement was killed quite quickly when I found out that my then boyfriend in Germany was seen on tinder.. 4 days after crying at the airport when saying goodbye. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I fell into a hole and really struggled with everything - Searching for a longterm apartment, starting to attend classes, struggling with the unfamiliar culture and the new language, while being so far from everyone I loved and kinda only getting to know superficial and toxic friends in the beginning. I pretty quickly had my first low point 😖😖 ↗️ What helped me in this phase: ▪️ Solo Traveling through the country ▪️ Focussing on my Studies ▪️ Doing “touristy” stuff ▪️ Distance to people that made me feel bad ▪️ Forcing myself to meet new people ▪️ Talking a lot to my family I started to feel much much better, traveled around so much, met amazing people and simply enjoyed my time here in Korea, the country, the people and myself! 🙌🏼 ↘️ After a while I was ready to try dating in Korea. And guess what? Next low point 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ ↗️ So countless horrible text messages or dates later, I decided to stop.. again actively distancing myself from things or people that made me feel like s**t and started focusing on content creation and traveling again. Focusing on myself.. ↘️↗️↘️↗️↘️ And I know there is more to come.. more ups and downs.. cause that’s part of the process! That’s life 🤷🏼‍♀️ So if you’re planning to do the same: I can not tell you when or why you will have a low point after moving abroad. But I can tell you one thing: it will happen!
