Changing of the Guard Ceremony at Gyeongbokgung Palace Quick Guide The Royal Guard Changing Ceremony takes place at Gyeongbokgung Palace at 10:00am and 2:00pm daily, except Tuesdays when the palace is closed. The ceremony lasts about 20 minutes and reenacts the traditional guard-changing procedure of the Joseon Dynasty. You can see this ceremony without paying for a ticket to the palace, it’s FREE. Just enter the main courtyard and wait for it to begin. Pro Tip: You may not want to wait to see the ceremony because a lot of people watch it and then ALL of them enter the palace at the same time. Instead, make a note that there is a public training of the royal guards or a practice that takes place outside of the East gate headed toward the parking lot at 9:35am and 1:35pm. A lot less people watch here, but it’s got the guards the drums, and the show, just without the announcements on what they’re doing.
