How is this happening? 👇 🌍 In the last 60 years, the world has lost more than 9,000 billion tonnes of ice from glaciers, with over 90% of them shrinking since 1990. 🇳🇿 Here in Aotearoa, our glaciers are retreating faster than almost anywhere else in the world. Standing before Franz Josef Glacier hit me hard. In the early 1900s, its terminal face sat over 3 km further down the valley than it does today. Since 2008 alone, it has retreated by around 800 metres.
