3 of London’s biggest tourist money traps 👀🇬🇧 (and what to do instead) ❌ Travel Day Card Most 1-day Travelcards cost significantly more than the automatic daily fare cap you get when you tap with a contactless card or Oyster. For example: • Travelcard Zones 1–2 = around £16.60 • Contactless/Oyster daily cap Zones 1–2 = £8.90 max ❌ The Shard observation deck The views are stunning… but expensive. Instead, book a drink at one of the bars inside for similar views, at least you get a drink or food, or head to free viewpoints like Sky Garden or Horizon 22. ❌ Heathrow Express Fast? Yes. Necessary? Not really. The Elizabeth Line and Piccadilly Line are much cheaper and only slightly slower. Unless you’re in a major rush, you’re paying for convenience. London is expensive, but it doesn’t have to be that expensive.
