Reposting a tour of one of my favorite places in Kyoto: a hidden luxury hotel on the edge of the city that you can only access by boat, called Hoshinoya. . 📍Kyoto, Japan | @hoshinoya.official . My review of Hoshinoya, Kyoto: It’s Just beyond the crowds taking photos in Kyoto’s bamboo forest (Arashiyama) there is, inconspicuously, a peaceful and private, nature-filled retreat and luxury ryokan. Accessible only by boat (or via a long walk from the port // ride in their ridiculously skinny car on the pedestrian pathway), few people reach this part of the tranquil river. At the five star Ryokan, guests get to enjoy a tea patio overlooking the river, in-room cedar baths, a craft room, gardens, and a restaurant that serves multi-course kaiseki style meals. It’s not cheap but it’s worth the splurge (yes, I paid in full for this one). If you want to spend less, book well in advance so you have your choice of rooms, and try to stay on a weeknight. We booked a Sunday / Monday and it was perfect. Worth it for our spurge hotel on the trip. . Side note: does anyone else do this? Mostly book budget or mid-range but splurge on one hotel for big trips? . . . #japantravels #japanrevealed #stayandwander #boutiquehotel #ryokan #secretjapan
