I’m not going to lie (and I’ve made it no secret if you’ve met me), I loathe self-checkout. In Korea, more and more shops are going completely vendorless and even in restaurants, you should order from a kiosk. The thing is, you lose a whole sense of community by removing these opportunities for conversation. Not to mention the fact that we’re not getting a discount for literally working for the companies making us work for our food now. If I have the choice of self-checkout or that one cashier, I always go to the cashier. They’ve literally been trained to be more efficient, so why would I waste my time. But also, I love talking to cashiers, what’s new, oh does this have ____ in it? My daughter can’t eat that. Those kiosks at restaurants often don’t have ingredients listed. Is this spicy? What’s your most popular item? Staff are really the best salesmen. It’s a whole thing for me. Suffice to say, anything to make it more polar “bearable” I suppose. At least this made me smile when I saw him. How do you feel about all of the people-less shops and restaurants now? #7eleven #vendorless
