Comment "waterfalls" to get your FREE waterfall map with all the insider tips + more! ๐ Waterfall Wednesdays: New Zealand Edition ๐๏ธ Once again I am having to talk about the absolute disgusting state of our waterways in New Zealand. It is a complete and utter travesty that we have come to this. Pollution, mainly from industrial agriculture, is ruining our environment and making our lakes and rivers unsafe to swim in as well as uninhabitable for our native species. Basically, high amounts of nutrients from industrial agricultural have caused algae to grow in huge numbers, die, and suffocate all life in this waterway (and many others). At the time of visiting, this waterway was also listed as unsafe to swim due to E. coli levels in the water from the very same pollution. If youโd still like to check this place out, hereโs your guide to exploring Maketu Falls: ๐ฅพ Trail: 10 minutes from the road through native bush. ๐ ฟ๏ธ Access/Parking: A small pullout on the side of Pratts Road by the cemetery. ๐ Difficulty: Easy ๐คซ Secret: This is known locally as a great swimming hole but I would NOT risk swimming here at all. The level of pollution makes it dangerous. ๐ง๐ฆ Family-friendly: Yes. ๐ฆฎ Dog-Friendly: Yes. ๐ Shade: Yes. ๐ฝ Facilities: No. ๐๏ธ Leave no trace: Preserve this beautiful spot by taking your rubbish with you and staying on marked trails. ๐ Follow @getlostwithliam for more hidden gems, trail tips, and outdoor inspiration! #connecttonature #waterfallwednesdays #nzplacestovisit #thingstodoinnz #bucketlisttravel
