I spent THREE weeks this summer dedicated to my art practice at a magical cabin in the woods, which felt like the biggest gift I could give myself. I spent a lot of time thinking about my mom, reading, processing grief and being open to how it might be expressed in my painting practice. There were moments of flow, moments of frustration, moments of sadness but also an overarching feeling of gratitude for it all. Gratitude for the generosity of friends for sharing such a special place, for the ability to take the time away, to myself for entering into this scary realm of grief. Gratitude to my mom who instilled my creative spirit and for still showing me what I am capable of even if she’s not here to see it.
