When I spotted these New Zealand Fur Seals lounging along the rugged coastline, I was reminded of their incredible journey. These once nearly extinct seals have bounced back from the brink, and seeing them thrive again in their natural habitat is nothing short of inspiring. Did you know? 🦭 New Zealand Fur Seals were heavily hunted in the 1800s for their fur, nearly driving them to extinction. 🌊 Thanks to strict protection measures, their population is now steadily increasing, with around 200,000 seals calling NZ home! 🌿 These marine mammals are expert divers, capable of reaching depths of over 200 meters in search of food. 📍 This colony is at Red Rocks in Wellington between July and October.
