▼Spot info▼ 📍Kitano tenmangu shrine @kitano_tenmangu 📝About Step into the quiet elegance of Kyoto’s Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, where over 1,500 plum trees bloom in graceful harmony each spring. Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane—the deity of learning, poetry, and deep emotion—this shrine is also home to a beloved symbol: the plum blossom. Before being exiled from Kyoto in the 10th century, Michizane wrote a heartfelt poem to his favorite plum tree, asking it to send its fragrance with the eastern wind after his departure. This poem lives on today, and so does the deep connection between the shrine and its blooming ume. From early February to late March, the Plum Garden opens its gates, offering a peaceful stroll among red and white blossoms, tea beneath the trees, and the soft presence of seasonal beauty. If you thought Kyoto’s spring was only about cherry blossoms, this garden might gently change your mind. 🗺️Address Kitano Tenmangu Shrine Bakuro-cho, Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto 602-8386 Japan 🚃Access by train ⚪︎JR Line: • From Kyoto Station Take Kyoto City Bus No. 50 (approx. 35 min) → Get off at “Kitano Tenmangu-mae” 🚌Access by bus ①Bus Terminal
