Tasman Lake didn’t exist before the 1990s; it was Tasman Glacier back then. Since the year 2000 the lake has doubled in size with the glacier’s rapid retreat. Overall, New Zealand’s glaciers have lost more than 1/3rd of their mass in that same time period. This means that New Zealand’s glaciers are retreating faster than almost anywhere else in the world, you can view pictures from your parent’s holiday albums that show their enormity compared to what they look like now. That’s how fast this is happening. It is not natural. It is global warming. The next generation will not get to experience the majesty of our glaciers. #traveltruthbomb #climatechange #newzealandenvironment #nztravel #visitnz
