I travel 3-4 times internationally and here are the 5 pieces of advice I would give to someone who has never traveled internationally before: Get Your Passport & Visas in Order Early – Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. You can get turned away from flights if your passport isn’t valid. Research visa requirements for your destination and apply well in advance if needed. Pack Smart & Light – Stick to a carry-on if possible to avoid lost luggage and baggage fees. A capsule wardrobe with versatile pieces will make packing easier. Don’t forget a power adapter for your destination’s outlets! Have a Plan but Stay Flexible – Book key things like your first night’s accommodation and transportation from the airport, but leave room for spontaneity. Travel delays and unexpected opportunities happen—embrace them! Be Money-Savvy – Let your bank know you’ll be traveling to avoid card freezes, and have a mix of cash and cards. Use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees and withdraw local currency from ATMs for the best exchange rates. Learn the Basics of Local Culture & Etiquette – A little effort goes a long way! Learn a few key phrases in the local language, research tipping customs, and be aware of cultural norms to show respect and avoid misunderstandings. What would you tell someone who has never travelled internationally before?
