I’m 25 and Portugal is the second country I’ve moved to since leaving Australia in 2022 🛫 The craziest part is that when I left home I actually moved to England, and I thought that was my dream. When I found a place to live, and a place to work I thought everything would feel easy… but everything felt so wrong. I couldn’t adjust. I wasn’t enjoying my time and I just couldn’t understand where it all went wrong. My time in England was overtaken by work. I made no friends outside of my barista and fast food job and everyday felt harder than the one before. And I felt ashamed that the one thing I wanted so badly for myself didn’t make me happy the way that I expected it to. 🧳 I moved to Portugal in early 2024 and finally everything started falling into place. The city felt more like me, the people were open and welcoming, and I realised then that I’d considered my move to England a failure, but that wasn’t necessary true - all it was was redirection.
