Learn from my mistakes and read this before going to Scotland 🥲 We had an amazing time in Scotland, but it would have been even better had we known some of these tips before going! So I’m saving you from potential headaches with this list ⬇️ 1️⃣ If you’re visiting the western highlands in the summer months, you HAVE to prepare for the midges 🦟 They’re these tiny flying insects that bite you and the bites itch so badly 😭 I had no idea they were even a thing and got bitten all over my face, neck, ankles, and wrists 😱 Definitely bring insect repellent, DEET works well and locals also recommend Smidge and Skin So Soft products 2️⃣ The weather in Scotland can be quite unpredictable and you need to be prepared for rain ☔️ Make sure you bring a rainproof jacket, an umbrella, and comfortable waterproof shoes. My @vessi sneakers served me well but I did wish I had a longer and heavier raincoat 3️⃣ We knew that in Scotland you drive on the left, but what we didn’t expect was how narrows some of the roads are! And in the highlands and on the Isle of Skye, there are a lot of one lane roads with passing areas 😬 4️⃣ If you’re planning to visit at least 2-3 castles/historic sites, get a @historicacotland Explorer Pass to save money! We didn’t get one initially but luckily our first stop was Stirling Castle, and a very helpful guide there showed us how to buy the pass and how we can get refunded for the tickets we had already paid for. Check their list of included sites to see if it’ll be worth it for you! 5️⃣ Since Scotland is so far north, the days are very long in the summer and you have a lot more daylight compared to many other places ☀️ This was great because we could fit a lot more things into the day without worrying about it getting dark! Make sure to check the sunrise and sunset times so you can plan your itinerary accordingly Did any of these surprise you? The midges honestly caught me so off guard 🥲 Save this for your Scotland trip and follow @wendan.vs.world for more travel tips! #wendanvsscotland #wendanvsworld . . . #visitscotland #travelscotland #scotlanditinerary #scotlandiscalling #traveltips #travelmistakes
