POV: You’re Walking Through the Pompeii of Montenegro ⤵️ Hidden in the mountains above the Adriatic, Stari Bar feels like a place time forgot. Once the heart of the region for over a thousand years, it was abandoned after a siege and the 1979 earthquake — and much of it still stands in quiet ruins today. Set at the foot of the Rumija Mountains, surrounded by olive groves and the legendary 2,000-year-old Stara Maslina tree, it’s a place where history lingers in every stone. The town once had over 240 buildings — churches, mosques, and palaces — and even today, its remains tell stories of empires and earthquakes. Below the fortress, we’ve spotted one of only three surviving Ottoman aqueducts in the Balkans, and from above, views that stretch all the way to the sea. Part open-air museum, part ghost town — Stari Bar is easily one of Montenegro’s most underrated gems. #barmontenegro #montenegrotravel #montenegroguide #montenegrotrip #europehiddengems #europetravels Stari Bar Montenegro | Old Bar Montenegro | Stari Bar | Hidden gems Montenegro | Montenegro travel guide | Things to do in Montenegro | Historical places in Montenegro | Balkan ruins | Pompeii of Montenegro | Underrated places in Europe | Montenegro hidden gems |
