I’ve now been away from Australia for almost 4 years. I moved to England at 22, and then to Portugal at 24 🇵🇹 Every time I meet someone new and say I’m from Australia, I get the same reaction, shocked face followed by: ❓ “But… why would you leave?” Honestly, I’ve never had a perfect answer I didn’t leave because I hated Australia. I enjoyed my life there. But I knew there was so much more to experience, and I wanted to see it for myself. No one around me had a life I wanted. No dream job. Nothing that truly felt like “my thing.” So leaving didn’t feel like losing anything. 🗺️ I was young, single, completely free of obligations. No debt, no school, nothing holding me back. Coming out of Covid, it felt like the first moment in my life where I could just… go 🛫 Australia is incredible, but it’s also SO far. I wanted weekends exploring new cities, tasting new cultures, seeing life from a different perspective, and I didn’t want to wait. 🌏 I’ve never been one for the “traditional path.” I left high school and that was it, no university, no degree, no dream job. Working endlessly just to afford a trip once in a while felt like a trap. Australia will always be home, and I feel lucky for that. But it was too comfortable, too normal. I knew there was more waiting outside my comfort zone, and leaving has been the best decision I’ve ever made!! . . . #moveabroad #traveller #aussieabroad #liveabroad #nomadlife
