yooinkyoto — Karasuma Station

▼Spot info▼ 📍Rokkakudō (Shiunzan Chōhō-ji) 🌼About I visited Rokkakudō — known as the birthplace of ikebana — with a fellow ikebana practitioner. Many people come to this “heart of Kyoto” to pray for mastery in the arts. On the temple grounds, there is a “navel stone” that is said to mark the very center of Kyoto. Rokkakudō is believed to have been founded by Prince Shōtoku. The main hall has a unique hexagonal shape, which is where the temple gets its name. 🗺️Address 248 Donomae-cho, Rokkaku-dori Higashinotoin nishi-iru, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto 604-8134, Japan. 🚃Access • Subway: 3-min walk from Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Oike Station (Exit 5). • Hankyu train: 5-min walk from Karasuma Station (Exit 21). • Taxi (approx.): 10 min from Kyoto Station; 10 min from Keihan Sanjo; 5 min from Hankyu Kawaramachi. 🕙Opening Hours & Fees: • Temple grounds: 6:00–17:00 (except during special night openings). • Sutra office (nokyo): 8:30–17:00. • Admission: Free.
