Rottnest Island is a popular tourist destination in Australia and an easy day trip from Perth with the ferry, but I’m here to convince you that you should stay at least one night to get the most out of the island! Here are 4 reasons: 𝟏. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚. We were able to bike around the entire island on day 2, stopping at various beaches and viewpoints, dipping in the ocean whenever we got too hot and sweaty, and it was such a cool experience! For day trippers, there is a bus that takes you around and stops at different popular points of interest, but I much prefer the first option. 𝟐. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙟𝙤𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙥𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙙𝙨. The morning before the day trippers arrive and the evening after they leave were my favorite times on the island. We went snorkeling in Little Parakeet Bay and watched the sunset at a viewpoint near Catherine Bay in the evening and were the only ones there at both places. It felt absolutely magical. 𝟑. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙙𝙖𝙮. While the bright sunshine at midday is fantastic, I’m so glad we got to enjoy the gorgeous views in the morning, evening, sunset, and night. 𝟒. 𝙌𝙪𝙤𝙠𝙠𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜. Quokkas are probably the number 1 reason for anyone visiting Rottnest Island, and yes, you will definitely see them around during any time of the day, but we saw WAYYYY more of them in the evening and night! So if you want to maximize your quokka exposure, make sure to stay at least one night.
