The pagoda rises above the sloping street, and the soft reds and ambers from the nearby trees settle gently between the tiled roofs. Follow the road toward Kiyomizu-dera, and the pace shifts. Small shops, old teahouses, and the familiar stone steps of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka create a path filled with calm seasonal color. As you get closer to the temple, the hillside opens just enough to give small hints of the view waiting above. Save this route for a fall visit.
