Did You Know?
Home to Wild Monkeys
Unlike a zoo, the monkeys at Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama are completely wild and free-roaming. They choose to live on the mountain and interact with visitors on their own terms.
Monkey Population
The park is home to a troop of over 120 Japanese Macaques, also known as Snow Monkeys. Visitors can observe their complex social dynamics and individual personalities.
Humans Get Fed
Instead of visitors feeding the monkeys directly, humans enter a designated hut where they can safely feed the monkeys through a mesh fence. The monkeys approach the windows from outside.
Panoramic Views
Located on Mount Iwatayama, the park offers stunning panoramic views of Kyoto city, the Hozugawa River, and the surrounding Arashiyama area, making the hike up worthwhile even without the monkeys.
