Historical Bungalow

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib was originally a bungalow owned by Raja Jai Singh, a Rajput ruler in the 17th century. It was known as Jaisinghpura Palace and stood in the Jaisingh Pura neighborhood, which was later demolished to create Connaught Place.

Guru Har Krishan's Stay

The Gurudwara is named after the Eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, who stayed at Raja Jai Singh's bungalow. The bungalow was called 'Bangla' in Hindi and Punjabi, hence the name Bangla Sahib.

The Sikh General Sadar Baghel Singh built a small shrine on the site in 1783. He also constructed a small tank over a well to protect the sacred water, which is still collected and taken home by Sikhs around the world for its believed healing powers.
