The garden was established in 1855 by the wealthy Loring family, specifically by Jorge Loring Oyarzábal and Amalia Heredia Livermore, Marqueses de Casa Loring, who were passionate about botany and art.

The garden's creation and initial development were spearheaded by two prominent families: the Loring-Heredia family, followed by the Echevarría-Echevarrieta family, who further expanded and enriched the collection.
