Plaza Construction
JFK Plaza was built in 1965 over an underground parking garage, designed by renowned city planner Edmond Bacon.
1976
LOVE Statue Arrival
Robert Indiana's iconic LOVE statue was first placed in the plaza for the United States Bicentennial in 1976.
F. Eugene Dixon, Jr.
Statue Acquisition
After being removed in 1978, the LOVE statue was purchased by F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., Chairman of the Philadelphia Art Commission, and permanently returned to the plaza due to its immense popularity.
