Years of Rule
The Yamauchi clan, who built Kochi Castle, ruled the Tosa Domain (present-day Kochi Prefecture) from this castle for over 250 years, until the end of the Edo period.
Complete Structures
Uniquely among Japanese castles, Kochi Castle retains all of its original main buildings, including the main keep, gates, and palace, providing a comprehensive example of Edo-period castle architecture.
