Early Construction

The castle was first built in the early 1600s by Kato Yoshiaki, a prominent samurai lord.

Lightning
Fire and Reconstruction

Matsuyama Castle was destroyed by a lightning strike in 1784 but was meticulously reconstructed in 1852.
