The gate was originally known as Boca del Puente, meaning 'Mouth of the Bridge,' as it connected Getsemani to the Old City.
Clock Addition
The clock was added to the top of the gate in the early 18th century, giving it the name Torre del Reloj.
Partial Destruction
The Torre del Reloj was partially destroyed in 1697 by the baron of Pointis, leading to its reconstruction in 1704.
