Mozart's First Home
While often confused with his later residence, the 'Mozart Residence' (Mozart-Wohnhaus) was where Mozart lived from 1773 to 1780. His birthplace, Mozart's Birthplace (Mozarts Geburtshaus), is a different, though equally famous, property in Salzburg.
Years of Residence
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived in this spacious apartment on Hannibalplatz (now Makartplatz) with his family for eight years, from the age of 17 until he left for Vienna in 1781.
Spacious Living
Compared to his birthplace, the Mozart Residence offered much more space, providing a more comfortable environment for the growing Mozart family, including his parents, Leopold and Anna Maria, and his sister Nannerl.
Reconstruction History
Tragically, two-thirds of the original Mozart Residence was destroyed by an air raid in 1944 during World War II. It was painstakingly reconstructed in 1996 and now serves as a museum.
