Thailand's First Museum
The National Museum Bangkok was established in 1874 by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), making it the first public museum in Thailand. It was originally located in the Grand Palace before moving to its current site.
Former Vice-King's Palace
The museum is housed within the former grounds of the Wang Na (Front Palace), which served as the residence for the Uparaja (vice-king) during the early Rattanakosin period. Many of the exhibition halls are original palace buildings.
