Relocated Temples
Two ancient temples in Aswan, Philae Temple and Abu Simbel Temple, were relocated due to the rising water levels of the Nile River. This incredible feat involved dismantling and reassembling the structures, taking five years to complete.
Obelisk
Aswan is home to an unfinished obelisk, a testament to the ancient Egyptians' impressive skills in quarrying and sculpting. The obelisk was abandoned due to a crack that formed during its creation.
Aswan Dam
The Aswan Dam, one of the most expensive constructions in the world, stretches for an impressive 11,811 feet along the Nile River. It provides over half of Egypt's electricity and took ten years to build.
Nubian Relocation
The construction of the Aswan Dam led to the displacement of over 90,000 Nubians, who were moved to new settlements further away from their original homes.
