Unusually for a church, the Pey Berland Tower stands entirely separate from the Bordeaux Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-André). This separation was a deliberate choice due to the sandy soil of Bordeaux, which struggled to support the weight of a bell tower directly attached to the main church building.
