Year of Opening
Shinsekai was originally built in 1912, modeled after Paris and New York. The southern part was inspired by New York, while the northern part was modeled after Paris.
Iconic Tower
The Tsutenkaku Tower is the symbol of Shinsekai. The original tower was inspired by the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, but it was dismantled during World War II and rebuilt in 1956.
God of Things
Billiken, a charm doll and 'God of Things As They Ought to Be,' is a popular symbol in Shinsekai. Rubbing the soles of his feet is said to bring good luck.
Local Delicacy
Shinsekai is famous for Kushikatsu, deep-fried skewers of meat and vegetables. A key rule is 'no double dipping' in the communal sauce!
