Sumiyoshi Taisha was established in 211 by Empress-regent Jingū, making it one of Japan's oldest shrines.
Sea Gods
The shrine is dedicated to three sea gods: Sokotsutsuno-o no Mikoto, Nakatsutsuno-o no Mikoto, and Uwatsutsuno-o no Mikoto, collectively known as the Sumiyoshi Sanjin.
