Udo Jingu Shrine is uniquely built inside a large cave overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offering breathtaking views and a distinctive spiritual atmosphere.
Stone Throwing Tradition
Visitors can try throwing 'undama' (lucky stones) from the cliff into a target marked by a rope in the ocean. It's said that if a man throws it with his left hand and a woman with her right hand, their wish will come true.
Sacred Animal
Rabbits are considered sacred at Udo Jingu, believed to be messengers of the gods. You'll find numerous rabbit statues and motifs throughout the shrine grounds.
Healing Water
Within the cave, there's a spring called 'Obi-iwa' or 'Breast Rock' from which water drips, said to resemble breast milk. It's believed to bless expectant mothers with safe delivery and sufficient milk for their babies, and children with healthy growth.
