... here’s the road trip itinerary. . Highway 395 is the desert-y highway that runs north-south through California, following the Sierra Nevada mountain range and passing through some incredible landscapes. Although most people from outside of California will talk about wanting to drive the Pacific Coast Highway, I think this epic highway deserves the same place in people’s imagination. I’ve driven the portion between Lake Tahoe and L.A. many times over the years, and here’s everywhere I’d stop on a road trip down Highway 395: ✦ Start near Lake Tahoe or Reno, the easiest entry point if you’re flying in ✦ Stop in Carson City, NV for a drink or meal @banksaloonnv, visit the Nevada State Museum, or detour to Kings Canyon for a waterfall hike ✦ Detour to Bodie State Park: a ghost town near Mono Lake ✦ Mono Lake: known for its tufas, plus good fly fishing nearby ✦ June Lake + Mammoth: hikes, mountain biking, hot springs — June Lake has lakeside camping and @pinopies is the best food stop near the campsite. Lots more options in Mammoth (bigger town) ✦ Bishop: a small town with a big rock climbing scene, we liked @mountainramblerbrewery for lunch ✦ Alabama Hills + Lone Pine: camping and dramatic rock formations with Mount Whitney in the background, plus basic lodging and food in Lone Pine ⭐ Want the full itinerary?
