How we moved to Australia ↓🇦🇺 ✔️ Checked visa eligibility We found out we were eligible for the Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417). In short, you need to be 18-35 (UK passport holders), have no dependent children, meet basic health and character requirements and have enough funds to support yourself when you arrive. ⏰ Gave ourselves time We allowed a full year from the original idea to actually going. That gave us space to save properly, plan logistics, research where we wanted to live and decide how long we wanted to be out here - without rushing any big decisions. 💰 Worked out how to earn a living I’m a social media manager and content creator, so I made sure all my work could be done remotely. James is a wedding photographer, so we ran Meta ads for Sydney weddings during peak season - he ended up booking 11 weddings before we even landed. ✈️ Booked flights Our one-way flights cost around £1,200 total for two people. 🏡 Sorted accommodation We were lucky enough to stay with family for the first few weeks, which made a huge difference. During that time, we prepped our rental applications properly and secured an apartment in our dream location within two weeks. 🏥 Insurance + healthcare We took out travel and travel medical insurance before leaving, then applied for Medicare once we arrived in Australia. 🧾 Did the boring admin Tax File Numbers, Australian bank accounts (we went with Commonwealth), phone contracts (@felixmobileau)- all the essentials to get set up properly. 🇦🇺 Took a leap of faith Truthfully, you never know if a move like this will work out.
