Korean Hanwoo Beef Hack There are so many places that you go to and you can end up getting a lower quality hanwoo beef. From the grocery store or department store or even from a butcher that gives you cheaper cuts sliced so thin that you can even taste the beef. Follow my tips to ensure you get the highest quality hanwoo beef! Tips 1. Find a local that you trust and go with their recommendation for a butcher and restaurant. I trust Austin from @eatwhatisgiven 2. Do not buy the pre sliced packages of meat at the Majang market. Sliced so thin that you can even appreciate the marbling and they often include tougher cheaper cuts. If you’re gonna spend this much money, might as well spend it all on ribeye and filet mignon. 3. Nothing wrong with the other cuts but ribeye and filet mignon in my opinion are the best! Also make sure you get BMS 9 1++ … this is the highest quality with the best marbling. The butcher I recommend only has the highest grade beef. 4. Watch the butcher cut the beef fresh and also get a nice thick piece. If possible, get the meat that is still vacuum sealed before they slice it to get the best possible freshness. 5. Always ask the butcher once everything is cut and weighed “kaka joo se yo” she was nice to give me 10,000 won off and a free slice of beef tongue. 6. Normally it costs $5 per person to take the beef to a restaurant to cook. Pay a little bit more like $8 per person and goto a nice restaurant. So much cleaner, better side dishes and nicer vibes. I recommend Wine and Beef restaurant which is just around the corner from the butcher. The butcher will hand deliver it and show you where it is. But you have to request Wine and Beef restaurant Went to Majong market in Seoul South Korea and picked up 13 ounces or 370g of deungshim 등심 or ribeye. 120,000 won or $110 CAD total or $80 USD plus 24,000 won for the restaurant charge (for 3 people) so total 144,000 won or $130 CAD or $98 USD. A restaurant would probably charge 250,000 won $230 CAD or $175 USD.
