What’s killing it? ⬇️⬇️⬇️ SAVE this beautiful forest for your next Auckland trip 🚗 ⛰️ Located in the Waitākere Ranges, this park is filled with ancient kauri forests. Only 2% of kauri forest remains in New Zealand, and around 20% of that contains trees that are now dead or dying from a fungal disease. ⛔ Since 2018, Auckland Council has closed access to several trails in this area (after a rāhui was placed by mana whenua) to prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease—a soil-borne pathogen that infects and kills kauri by attacking their roots. 🌿 The park’s reopening is still uncertain, as conservationists work to protect the remaining trees through measures like cleaning stations and controlled access. 📍 Cascade Kauri Regional Park, Waitākere Ranges, New Zealand Follow @naturewithliam for more of New Zealand’s hidden spots 🌲✨ #connecttonature #travelnz #newzealandtravel #bucketlisttravel #adventuretravel
